Branch Song

Feel like I'm always in the way
A branch that fell down in the rain
Sprawling limbs across both lanes of the highway
As others veer to pass me by they lose control and crash and die and the explosions will ignite a fire that burns into the night
And I might not be around for a little while
And I think I'd best lay low for a little while
Hey what's going on tonight,
Got work tomorrow, that's alright
I've got a bunch of stuff I need to do as well
Like feed the cat and pet the cat
Until she's sleeping in my lap as I stare into the endless void now more compact
I can hold it in my hand
And carry my despair everywhere.
Getting high alone every night
Think of all the songs i'd love to write
If I only had the time and skill and motivation.
And I feel less than content with this endless stream of content that I scour to no end in search of inspiration
And I might give it a rest for a little while
Yeah I think that might be best, if only for a little while
I am the shattered window pane
I am the branch across both lanes
I am the bloodshot eyes that just can't look away
I am the aches, I am the pains
I am the countryside in flames
I am the twisted metal frame of a Hiace
And I might not be around for a little while
Gonna try to keep my head down, if only if only for a little while

Worms Like Me
02:01

A pocket vibration a new invitation to speak to a stranger but I must decline just like every time a new combination of numbers finds its destination in dazzling light on the screen of my phone and it washes over my face to portray my dismay my palms start to sweat, my heart starts to race a hostile invasion of my digital space
But I won't pick up, I'll wait out the ring, cause it's never good news and it's never something I want to engage with if I can avoid it
Cause I'm barely a functional person, but I can survive clinging to the underbelly of civilization like a parasite, taking all I can get hoarding all I can find until Im rubbed away dirt in the eye of the great aching beast that we call humankind.
A social pariah, no stake in society just a vessel for social anxiety
And the earth is getting harder but worms like me, we'll bury deep down in the soil in search of safety
And the earth is getting harder but worms like me, we'll bury deep down in the soil and find some way to be free
